BRAVE BETTY started as an idea that creator, Janet Devins, had while travelling solo through Morocco, having signed up for an overnight trip into the desert.
A guide took a small group of other travellers and Janet by camel to spend the night in a communal tent. Janet describes her experience like this, “As I was re packing my backpack I started to wonder what I should do with my passport, credit card and cash – none of these things I was actually going to need right away, yet I had to take them with me. Money belts are okay, and I have used them in the past, but honestly who doesn’t know about them and where they are located? So with some scissors, a needle and thread I did a hasty modification to an old sports bra- it wasn’t pretty but it worked!”
This is when the idea for a real BRAVE BETTY started to percolate.
But it wasn’t until a few years later; after having the waist of my shirt lifted up at a market in Nairobi, that I really got serious about designing BRAVE BETTY.
As someone who has visited 40 countries, and many as a solo traveller, I can tell you that BRAVE BETTY will be the cheapest insurance you can purchase.
Put your valuables in the concealed inner security pocket, pull over your head, adjust and you’re done! Valuables will lay flat on your back, undetected and best of all safe!
I found once the worry of potential theft or misplacement of my stuff was eliminated I could really enjoy the experience.
“Adventure is a path. Real adventure – self-determined, self-motivated, often risky – forces you to have firsthand encounters with the world. The world the way it is, not the way you imagine it. Your body will collide with the earth and you will bear witness. In this way you will be compelled to grapple with the limitless kindness and bottomless cruelty of humankind – and perhaps realize that you yourself are capable of both. This will change you. Nothing will ever again be black-and-white.” – Mark Jenkins
